Heilig-Kreuz-Kapelle

The Heilig-Kreuz-Kapelle stands on the Han hill above Blieskastel, featuring a ribbed vault painted in original colors and an entrance adorned with the von der Leyen family crest.

Built between 1682 and 1683 under the direction of Johann Simon Rosinus, the chapel replaced a smaller structure and received funding from barons Carl Caspar and Damian Adolph von der Leyen.

The chapel houses the 14th-century Pietà known as 'Our Lady with the Arrows', which arrived in 1829 from Gräfinthal monastery and attracts 80,000 pilgrims each year.

The chapel underwent interior renovations in 2013 and contains a 1972 Hugo Mayer organ with five registers and a free-standing console near the entrance.

During the French Revolution in 1793, the chapel temporarily served as a guard room and powder magazine before its reconsecration in 1804 for religious services.
