Herzogskasten

The Herzogskasten stands as a six-story Gothic building constructed from rubble stone masonry, featuring three full stories and three attic levels with a vaulted cellar.

Built between 1450 and 1480 under Johann III of Abensberg, the structure initially served as a granary and warehouse before changing functions throughout different periods.

The building now houses the Stadtmuseum Abensberg, displaying collections that document local history from prehistoric times through medieval periods to modern developments.

Located at Dollingerstraße 18, the museum and tourist information center welcome visitors from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Dendrochronological studies in 2001 revealed original wooden beams from 1480, while the structure retains its late Gothic pointed-arched entrance portal from the same period.
