Kuchlbauer Tower, Observation tower in Abensberg, Germany
Kuchlbauer Tower is a 34-meter observation tower in Abensberg with colorful ceramic tiles, golden orbs, and windows placed at different heights following organic design principles. Inside, curved staircases without straight lines lead up to a viewing platform above the Hallertau countryside.
Friedensreich Hundertwasser drew the plans for the brewery in the 1990s but died in 2000 before construction began. Architect Peter Pelikan continued the project and opened the structure in 2010 after a decade of work.
The building displays local brewing traditions through a collection of wheat beer glasses and shows how beer connects people in Bavaria. Visitors see the role this drink plays in everyday life and how the brewery remains part of the town's rhythm and social fabric.
Access requires joining a guided tour through the brewery, which combines explanations of the production process with a climb to the viewing platform. Wear comfortable shoes because the steps are uneven and there are no elevators inside.
A round room inside holds a reproduction of Leonardo's Last Supper, connecting brewing and religious art in an unexpected way. This chamber is called the Leonardo vault and surprises visitors who expect only a brewery tour.
