Schloss Reichartshausen, Medieval castle in Oestrich-Winkel, Germany

Schloss Reichartshausen is a stately home with a U-shaped structure and classical design situated between vineyards and the Rhine River. The building features a central courtyard and now serves as an educational facility for business studies.

The castle was built between 1737 and 1740 by Abbot Hermann Hungrigausen and replaced a wine trading post that had operated there since 1152. Its construction continued a long tradition of wine commerce in the region.

The castle grounds feature a Burmese tea house built in 1971 that copies the entrance hall of Mandalay's royal palace. This unexpected structure shows how the place has absorbed international influences over time.

The castle has housed a business school since 1980 and is not open for general visits. The park grounds with the tea house may be accessible during special occasions, so it is worth checking ahead.

The castle's original wine cellar was once the largest storage and transfer point for wines from the nearby Eberbach Monastery. These underground spaces tell the story of how important this place was for regional wine trade.
