Sheridan-Kaserne, Military barracks in Pfersee, Augsburg, Germany
Sheridan-Kaserne is a former military complex in Pfersee with numerous buildings, storage facilities, and multiple entrances spread across the site. The grounds now contain protected historical structures, commercial spaces, and residential areas as part of the Sheridan Park development.
The complex was built between 1934 and 1936 and initially served the Wehrmacht until American forces took control in 1945 and renamed it after Medal of Honor recipient Carl V. Sheridan. This renaming marked a turning point in the site's history from a military stronghold to an occupied territory.
The barracks served as a meeting point where American soldiers and local residents encountered each other in everyday life, creating shared memories. These interactions left a lasting mark on how the neighborhood remembers the decades of American presence.
Parts of the site are accessible to visitors, though some areas are used for residential or commercial purposes where access may be restricted. It is advisable to check which sections are open to the public before your visit.
Building 116, once a vehicle hall, was used as a concentration camp satellite facility during the war and now functions as an educational center. This transformed space preserves the memory of this dark period for future visitors.
