Manor house in Bernstorf

The manor house in Bernstorf is a two-story brick structure with sandstone accents, combining Neo-Renaissance elements and Dutch architectural influences throughout its design. Its yellow brick facade features prominent side projections and gabled windows that define the building's visual character.

The estate has belonged to the von Bernstorff family since the 13th century and remained in their hands until 1945, when it was taken over. The family line ended with Hermann von Bernsdorff as the final resident before this transition occurred.

The northeastern gable contains a relief depicting Henry the Lion with the inscription 'AD HENRICUS LEO 1167', representing noble lineage connections.

The building underwent extensive renovation work completed in 2014 and now operates as a community hospice facility. Advance inquiry is recommended since the structure serves a private function and visiting access may be restricted.

Near the manor stands a granite memorial stone from 1359 bearing the oldest known Bernstorff coat of arms. The stone displays a kneeling knight with Latin inscriptions that document the family's ancient roots in the region.
