Wilmersdorfer See, Lake in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Germany.
Wilmersdorfer See was a natural lake in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, bordered by trees and green spaces. Today the former lake bed has been transformed into Volkspark Wilmersdorf, featuring open lawns and recreational facilities.
The lake became prominent in the 1880s when Otto Schramm opened a public swimming facility, establishing the area's reputation. In the early 1900s the water was drained and the site was redeveloped into sports and recreational spaces.
The location served as a gathering place for Berliners seeking recreation and entertainment through swimming and dancing. The park today reflects this legacy of public leisure and social activity.
The park is easily accessible and provides ample space for walking and spending time in green surroundings within the city. The lawns and pathways are laid out openly, allowing visitors to explore the area at their own pace.
The terrain follows a glacial valley formation, which explains its history as a former lake and remains visible in the landscape today. Natural forces shaped this location over millennia before humans transformed it for recreational use.
