Wallfahrtskirche St. Ägidius, Gothic pilgrimage church in Schildthurn, Germany.

Wallfahrtskirche St. Ägidius is a Gothic church in Zeilarn, in the Rottal-Inn district of Bavaria, Germany, with a tall tower that stands out above the surrounding rooftops. The interior features medieval wall paintings and a modest layout shaped by its Gothic origins.

The first structure on this site dates to the early 1200s, making it one of the older religious buildings in the region. It was reshaped in the Gothic style over the following centuries and modified again in the 1700s as pilgrimage activity grew.

The church is a pilgrimage site visited mainly by women hoping for children or praying for the health of newborns. This connection to motherhood shapes the way people move through the space and gives the building a personal, devotional feel that goes beyond ordinary parish life.

The church sits in the center of Zeilarn and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding area. Visiting in daylight gives you the best chance to take in the wall paintings inside and the tower from the outside.

A wooden cradle from the 1800s sits inside the church, placed there as part of a ritual by pilgrims hoping for children. This object shows that pilgrimage here was not only about prayer but also involved physical acts with everyday items brought into the sacred space.
