Jagdschloss Gelbensande, Grand ducal hunting lodge in Gelbensande, Germany
Jagdschloss Gelbensande is a brick building with twelve restored rooms on the representative floor, including four preserved fireplaces and an original grand ducal bathroom. The museum now presents exhibitions about the history and life within this summer residence.
Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III commissioned architect Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel in 1885 to build this summer residence, which was furnished by 1887. After 1945, the building served as a sanatorium and hospital before later being converted into a museum.
The lodge shows through its rooms and furnishings how the grand ducal family lived and spent their time. The furnished chambers tell of hunting traditions and the daily life of the court in the 1800s.
The museum is located along the B105 between Rostock and Stralsund and can be visited with a guided tour through the furnished rooms. Visitors should check beforehand if tours are available, as visits typically happen in groups.
The building became a wedding venue after 1998 and has since hosted over 1000 ceremonies. This second career as a wedding location gave the lodge an entirely new role in the life of the region.
