The stone building stands at 452 meters above sea level on the northern edge of Blockhauswiese, surrounded by dense forest in the Lower Harz region.

Duke Wilhelm of Brunswick constructed a wooden hunting cabin in 1872, which was replaced by the current stone structure between 1906 and 1908.

After 1945, the property changed from a hunting lodge to a forestry administration building and later became a holiday residence for research institute employees.

The lodge operates as a hotel with nine rooms featuring garden views, satellite television, private balconies, and complimentary wireless internet access.

The building serves as checkpoint number 59 in the Harzer Wandernadel hiking system, attracting nature enthusiasts who collect stamps along the mountain trails.
