Wamboltsches Schloss, Renaissance castle in Groß-Umstadt, Germany

The three-winged castle features sandstone ornaments on the gables, decorative pillars, and three original wrought iron basket grilles on the windows.

First documented in 1036 as property of the Heddersdorf family, the castle became the residence of the Wambolt family through marriage in 1439.

The castle represents a typical urban residence from the 17th century, displaying architectural influences from the palaces of Darmstadt, Heidelberg, and Aschaffenburg.

The castle underwent extensive renovations between 2016 and 2017, including repairs to the roof structure and facade restoration with public funding.

The castle basement houses a restaurant in its vaulted cellars, offering dining options under ancient trees in the inner courtyard.
