Wamboltsches Schloss

Wamboltsches Schloss is a three-winged castle in Groß-Umstadt featuring sandstone ornaments on the gables, decorative pillars, and three original wrought iron basket grilles on its windows. The inner courtyard is lined with old trees, creating a quiet space within the surrounding urban setting.

The property was first documented in 1036 as an estate owned by the Heddersdorf family, before passing through marriage to the Wambolt family in 1439. This change marked the start of its long role as a significant residence in the town.

The castle served for centuries as a residence for a wealthy family and continues to shape the character of the market square today. With its three wings and stone ornaments, it acts as a focal point in the historic center of town.

The grounds are partly open to visitors, with the inner courtyard featuring a restaurant and cafe for dining and relaxation. The facades can be viewed from outside and offer good photo opportunities from the market square sides.

Beneath the three wings lie vaulted cellars now operating as a restaurant and wine bar, offering a distinctive dining experience in a historic setting. These underground rooms add an extra layer of historical atmosphere to any visit.
