Kalkwerk Hammerunterwiesenthal

Kalkwerk Hammerunterwiesenthal is an underground limestone mine in the Ore Mountains with several interconnected tunnels that access different extraction areas. The mining facility extends deep into the mountain and shows the structure of an intensive extraction operation.

The first lime kiln at this location was recorded in 1741 by the mining authorities and produced lime for construction purposes. From this early operation grew a significant mining business for building and agricultural lime production.
