Kienberg, Mountain summit in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Germany
Kienberg is a 102-meter-high mountain located in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district and forms the center of a 60-hectare park with pathways, green spaces, and various areas for rest and recreation. An observation structure at the summit provides views across the surrounding landscape.
The site started as a low hill of only 58 meters in 1966 and grew to its current height by 1981 through building debris and excavated earth from local housing projects. This transformation was part of the district's urban development efforts.
The area serves as a gathering spot for people seeking outdoor space within the city limits, drawing visitors of all ages year-round. Families and individuals use the grounds regularly to escape urban routines and spend time among trees and open spaces.
The summit is accessible via a cable car or walking trails that depart from various park entrances and are clearly marked. The mountain is open year-round, and the park offers rest areas along the pathways for visitors who need a break.
The observation structure at the summit features around 170 steel nodes covered with translucent fabric that glows with colored lighting at night. This creates an unexpected modern art installation nestled within a natural setting.
