Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Administrative borough in eastern Berlin, Germany
Marzahn-Hellersdorf is a district in eastern Berlin that includes five neighborhoods: Biesdorf, Hellersdorf, Kaulsdorf, Mahlsdorf and Marzahn. Each neighborhood has residential areas, green spaces and local infrastructure distributed across the territory.
The district was formed in 2001 by merging the two former independent districts Marzahn and Hellersdorf. These areas developed primarily during the GDR period as residential locations for the growing population of the capital.
The five neighborhoods maintain their individual characteristics, from traditional housing areas in Biesdorf to modern residential complexes in Marzahn and Hellersdorf.
The area is connected to central Berlin through several S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines that provide direct access. Shopping facilities and public services are distributed across all five neighborhoods.
Kienberg hill offers a viewpoint over the entire eastern cityscape and sits right next to the Gardens of the World. A cable car connects the hill with the park grounds and allows an overview from above.
