Magerviehhof Friedrichsfelde, Heritage livestock market and brewery in Marzahn, Germany.
Magerviehhof Friedrichsfelde is a listed group of brick buildings in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district of Berlin, situated along the former Wriezener railway line near Friedrichsfelde Ost station. The complex now houses a brewery and restaurant called Alte Boerse Braustube, which operates within the original trading halls.
The site opened in 1903 as a trading center for lean cattle and continued operating until 1945, when the end of World War II brought its original activity to a halt. The buildings then stood largely unused for decades before being converted into a brewery and restaurant.
The name translates roughly as "lean cattle yard," a direct reference to the type of animals traded here before the site changed hands. Today, people come to drink locally brewed beer in the same brick halls where livestock dealers once did business.
The site is easy to reach by public transport, as Friedrichsfelde Ost station is just a short walk away. The brewery and restaurant keep their own hours, so checking before you go will save you a wasted trip.
Unlike most livestock markets of its time, this site had no slaughterhouses on the grounds, making it purely a place for trading. That separation meant the buildings were structurally closer to warehouses, which made the later conversion to a brewery far more straightforward.
