Kaulsdorfer Seen

Kaulsdorfer Seen is a protected landscape area comprising three lakes surrounded by forests, meadows, and reed-lined shores. These bodies of water are located in eastern Berlin and form natural spaces where people can spend time outdoors within the city.

The area became a protected landscape in 1994 to preserve its natural diversity and wildlife habitats. This protected status helped prevent intensive development around the lakes while allowing natural processes to continue.

The lakes serve as gathering places where residents come to swim, walk, and watch birds throughout the year. You see families at the swimming areas, cyclists along the shores, and nature lovers with binoculars observing wildlife in the reed beds.

The area is easy to reach by train at Mahlsdorf station or by car with parking available nearby. The paths around the lakes are easy to walk and suitable for swimming, hiking, and wildlife watching.

The three lakes have different sizes and characteristics, with Butzer See, Habermannsee, and Elensee each offering distinct landscapes. Visitors are often surprised to find such green, biodiverse water areas so close to the urban core.
