Wollheim Memorial, Holocaust memorial at Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany
The Wollheim Memorial is located on the Goethe University campus and features a pavilion marked with prisoner number 107984. Inside, visitors can watch videos and hear accounts from survivors of the Buna/Monowitz concentration camp.
The memorial was established in 2008 and honors Norbert Wollheim, a survivor who won a lawsuit against IG Farben in 1951. This legal case was significant because it secured compensation for forced labor in factories.
The memorial tells stories of Jewish life before the war and shows how people lived together in that time. Visitors can understand what these communities meant and how daily life looked then.
The memorial stands near the main entrance of the IG Farbenhaus building and is easy to find. On the website www.wollheim-memorial.de, visitors can find information in multiple languages and learn more about the stories.
The pavilion contains 24 recorded testimonies from survivors, including authors such as Primo Levi and Elie Wiesel. These direct voices give visitors an immediate sense of what these people experienced.
