Knoten

Knoten is a mountain summit in the Westerwald range that rises to 605 meters and sits within the Rhine Slate Mountains of central Germany. The peak can be reached via several well-marked trails that approach from different directions.

During the 19th century, the mountain inspired German painters who captured its landscape in their artworks, reflecting the era's growing appreciation for nature. This artistic interest helped establish it as a noted destination in the region.

The summit functions as a gathering point for local hiking clubs that organize regular mountain expeditions and contribute to the maintenance of trail networks.

The summit is accessible from parking areas at the mountain's base, with paths that are well-maintained and clearly marked throughout. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the walk involves rocky terrain.

The rock formations of Knoten support plant species specially adapted to the mineral-rich soil found here, which visitors often overlook. This ecological feature makes it particularly interesting for nature enthusiasts who take time to observe the vegetation.
