Kloster Hedingen

Kloster Hedingen is a former Dominican monastery in Sigmaringen featuring baroque architecture with a central church building adorned with ornate decorations and detailed structural elements. The complex comprises multiple buildings connected by pathways that form a unified ensemble.

Founded in 1338 by Junker Ital Volkwin, the monastery operated as a Dominican women's convent until its dissolution between 1595 and 1597. Subsequent use by the Hohenzollern family became central to its later history.

The monastery church serves as a burial place for the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen family, with numerous tombs and memorial stones visible throughout the space. This connection between the religious building and noble history shapes how visitors experience the interior today.

The monastery sits at the southern edge of Sigmaringen and welcomes visitors during set hours. Taking time to walk through the grounds and notice how the different buildings relate to each other enriches the visit.

The Marian Chapel displays a large baroque nativity scene during the Christmas season, belonging to the Hohenzollern family and dating back around 250 years. This seasonal artwork visibly connects religious tradition with family history.
