Helmarshausen Abbey

Helmarshausen Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Bad Karlshafen situated along the Diemel River, featuring Romanesque architecture and remnants of fortification structures from its original construction. The medieval complex retains traces of its original layout and allows visitors to explore preserved sections and learn about monastic life.

The abbey was founded in 901 and initially operated as an imperial monastery with considerable influence. During the Middle Ages it came under the authority of the Diocese of Paderborn and gradually diminished in power.
