Kornhaus, Renaissance granary and event venue in Ulm, Germany
Kornhaus is a three-story stone building with Renaissance features and decorated portals showing late Gothic influences. Inside, modern facilities have been integrated into the historic structure to accommodate various events and gatherings.
Built in 1594 by architect Casper Schmid, the granary originally stored grain to support regional trade along the Danube. Over time the building was adapted to serve new purposes while maintaining its historic character.
Today the building serves as a gathering place where concerts, exhibitions, and events bring people together. Visitors experience how the historic spaces welcome contemporary cultural activities.
The venue sits centrally at Kornhausplatz 1 and is easy to reach. Multiple rooms inside are equipped for different types of events, and facilities have been updated while respecting the building's historic appearance.
The exterior displays the sgraffito technique, a decoration method where patterns are created by scratching through multiple layers of plaster. This ornamental surface work is one of the building's most striking visual features.
