Komturei Heimbach

Komturei Heimbach is a fortified monastic complex featuring a central church and administrative buildings arranged around a protected courtyard near Zeiskam. The remains of the monastery church are now marked by a Gothic monument, installed in 2011 following excavations conducted the previous year.

The commandry was founded in 1207 and served as a regional power center for the Knights Hospitaller in the Palatinate. It was dissolved in 1525 during the German Peasants' War, when local upheaval disrupted the region.

The site served as an administrative center for the Knights Hospitaller, controlling and managing large estates from this location. The complex shaped the region through its role in overseeing vineyards and agricultural lands.

The site is located in a rural area and can be reached on foot from the village of Zeiskam. Visitors should be aware that these are archaeological remains that may not always be clearly visible.

In 1310, the site hosted the wedding of Prince John and Elizabeth of Bohemia, an event of considerable political importance. This royal celebration highlights the complex's significance within the political networks of the medieval realm.
