Expedition GeForce, Steel roller coaster in Holiday Park, Haßloch, Germany
Expedition GeForce is a steel roller coaster at Holiday Park near Haßloch that begins with an 82-degree drop and runs through several hills and curves. The track extends over a kilometer and reaches speeds near 120 kilometers per hour (75 mph) throughout the ride.
The ride opened in June 2001 for the park's 30th anniversary and was the first project of its kind in Germany to use a cable lift instead of a chain system. Intamin and Werner Stengel developed the design together for the amusement park in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The roller coaster established new standards for European thrill rides, introducing the first cable lift system instead of traditional chain mechanisms in Germany.
Visitors must be at least 140 centimeters (about 55 inches) tall to ride, and the journey lasts just under one minute and 15 seconds. The trains hold 28 passengers each and the experience includes seven moments of weightlessness during the course.
Over 200 foundations reach up to 20 meters (about 65 feet) deep to anchor the entire structure and absorb the high forces during the ride. The track runs partly through wooded terrain and crosses a lake within the park grounds.
