Marienberg reaches an elevation of 69 meters above sea level and extends 600 meters from north to south and 900 meters from east to west.
The original name Harlungerberg derives from Germanic mythology, but changed to Marienberg due to the influence of the neighboring Marienkirche church.
The mountain summit served as a central worship site in prehistoric times, possibly dedicated to deities Frigg or Freyja before becoming a Christian pilgrimage destination.
The mountain features two separate spiral staircases with 180 steps each, leading to observation platforms offering visibility up to 60 kilometers on clear days.
In 2015, the mountain played a central role during the Federal Garden Show, transforming its park facilities into exhibition grounds.
