Mittelheim

Mittelheim stretches along the Rhine in Hesse with numerous vineyards producing Riesling on gently sloping hillsides. The locality sits within one of the region's most important wine-producing areas.

Mittelheim existed as an independent settlement before merging with other villages in 1972 to form Oestrich-Winkel. This administrative reorganization combined three separate communities.

St. Aegidius Basilica shapes the townscape as one of Germany's oldest stone churches. It hosts concerts during the Rheingau Music Festival.

The best way to reach it is by the Frankfurt-Wiesbaden-Koblenz railway line or Bundesstrasse 42, which connects to the motorway network. Plan enough time to explore the vineyard landscape and the village center.

The area produces around half a million liters of wine annually, making it a significant contributor to Oestrich-Winkel's status as Hesse's largest wine town. This output reflects the region's productive capacity in the Rheingau.
