Museum der 50er Jahre
Museum der 50er Jahre, 1950s museum in Weddewarden, Bremen, Germany.
The Museum der 50er Jahre is housed in a former US Army chapel building offering approximately 500 square meters of exhibition space. Inside are thousands of everyday items that document daily life in the early postwar period.
The collection was assembled beginning in 1984 by historian Kerstin von Freytag Löringhoff and initially displayed in Cuxhaven. The museum opened to the public at this location in 2000.
The museum displays everyday objects from 1949 to 1963 that reveal how people lived in the early Federal Republic. Visitors see vintage telephones, Coca-Cola advertisements, and old pub furniture that show the daily routines and leisure habits of that era.
The museum is located near the harbor on the grounds of the former Carl-Schurz military base and operates with volunteer staff. Opening hours are limited, so checking availability before visiting is recommended.
The museum houses approximately 40,000 objects documenting postwar daily life. This collection forms a rare time capsule of the early Federal Republic and its material culture.
