Neues Palais

The Neues Palais is a palace in Detmold with a central structure and two matching wings, displaying baroque and classical features across its facade. The layout appears balanced and stately, with well-proportioned interiors adapted for modern use.

Count Friedrich August commissioned its construction in 1708 as a gift for his wife, Countess Amalie zu Solms-Hohensolms, with completion by 1718. During World War I it briefly served as a reserve hospital before finding its lasting role as a music academy after the war.

Today it houses the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, making it a hub for musical training and performances in the region. The rooms have been adapted for teaching and concerts, bringing regular activity to its historic spaces.

The palace sits south of Detmold's city center near the Palaisgarten and is straightforward to reach. Between 2004 and 2006 it underwent extensive renovation to modernize its facilities and make it accessible to visitors.

The Palaisgarten surrounding the palace was carefully designed as a landscape garden and offers visitors green spaces to explore. This garden creates a pleasant setting that complements the historic building in its current use.
