Burg und Schloss Allstedt is a fortified complex in Saxony-Anhalt with heavy defensive walls and arrow slits built into the fortification system. The site displays the typical layout of medieval strongholds with its stone exterior walls and interior buildings arranged around a central area.
From 935 to 1200 it served as a royal palace where German kings and emperors carried out administrative duties and held their court. After this period it evolved into a castle with a different purpose and role.
Thomas Müntzer preached here in 1524, delivering a sermon that shaped the Reformation movement and remains a turning point in religious history. The place became tied to how people think about religious change and the roots of Protestantism.
