St. Stephanus

St. Stephanus is a Romanesque church in Kleinosterhausen with a rectangular nave and square tower topped by an onion dome with lantern from the early 18th century. The interior contains a cross-vaulted choir room in the lower tower section, showing the original architectural style.

The church originates from the Romanesque period and maintained its basic form through the centuries. In the early 18th century, it acquired the distinctive onion dome that defines its appearance today.

The wooden galleries along the north and west sides feature painted baluster railings in green and blue, adding color to the interior. These decorative elements define how the church looks and feels when you walk through it.

The building underwent major renovations in 1995 that included replacing the weather vane on the tower and updating structural elements. It is best to check opening times in advance before planning a visit.

Two cast iron bells hang in the bell frame and have marked this place for generations. Together with the simple wooden pulpit altar and baptismal font, they reveal a deliberately modest interior furnishing style.
