Radialsystem V, Cultural venue in Friedrichshain, Germany.
Radialsystem V is an event venue in Friedrichshain situated along the Spree River, combining restored brick structures with modern glass additions across its levels. The building contains various sized rooms and open areas that can be used separately or connected for different types of programming.
The building started as a water pumping station in the 1880s and managed the city's wastewater during Berlin's rapid expansion and urbanization. Its industrial function gradually gave way to cultural use in recent decades.
The name comes from the radial water distribution system that once operated here, and today it serves as a creative laboratory where dancers, musicians, and visual artists collaborate and share their work. You will notice how the industrial past and contemporary artistic practice coexist throughout the rooms.
The venue features an outdoor terrace on an upper level where you can relax and enjoy views of the river and surrounding area during events or between performances. Its location along the water makes arriving by public transport straightforward and exploring the neighborhood rewarding.
The site demonstrates how industrial buildings can be successfully repurposed while keeping some of the original mechanical systems visible as part of the design. This layering of past infrastructure with current artistic use creates an unusual backdrop for performances.
