Randenburg

Randenburg is an archaeological castle site with foundations and remains of medieval defensive structures. Excavations have revealed multiple building phases that show the location was used and modified over a long period.

The site is accessible during daylight and allows you to view the ground plans and preserved stone remains. The best visit is in good weather, when the excavation areas and ground markings are easy to see.

The hilltop location makes clear why this spot was chosen for a castle, since the approaches and surrounding area could be controlled from above. The height of the location was therefore an important reason for settlement.
