Rothenberg Fortress, Medieval fortress in Schnaittach, Germany.
The fortress stands on a 588-meter hill, featuring 16-meter-high walls and internal vaulting reaching 10 meters in height throughout the structure.
Built between 1300 and 1330 by Dietrich von Wildenstein, the fortress changed ownership to Charles IV in 1360 to protect his Bohemian estate.
The fortress contained two barrack buildings, an armory, garrison headquarters, and a church that supported military families and their daily activities.
Visitors can access the bridge and gate structure independently, with designated parking located 15 minutes from the fortress entrance.
The underground casemates close from November to April to protect bat populations that inhabit the fortress ruins throughout winter months.
