Sankt-Katharinen-Kirche, Medieval church in Altstadt, Magdeburg, Germany.
The Sankt-Katharinen-Kirche featured a stone structure with a main hall designed to accommodate large numbers of worshippers in downtown Magdeburg.
The church's foundation stone was laid in 1230, and in 1524 the congregation and its pastor Johann Ziegenhagen converted from Catholicism to Protestantism.
Named after Catherine of Alexandria, the church received a finger relic of the saint brought to Magdeburg by Archbishop Albrecht I in 1220.
The building served as a shelter for Magdeburg residents and refugees during the severe air raids of January 1945 in World War II.
After surviving 736 years of history, including fires and wartime damage, the church structure was finally demolished between 1964 and 1966.
