Sports Walk of Fame, Walk of Fame in Breiter Weg, Magdeburg, Germany
The Sports Walk of Fame features granite plaques with bronze medallions honoring athletes who brought over 400 medals to Magdeburg through international competitions.
Established in 2007, the monument began with a selection of 10 athletes chosen from 150 nominations through a public voting process in the Magdeburger Volksstimme newspaper.
The monument recognizes Olympic champions, world champions, and national champions who have contributed to establishing Magdeburg as a leading sports city in Germany.
Located along Breiter Weg in the Old Town district, visitors can discover the achievements of local athletes through detailed inscriptions on each commemorative plaque.
The Walk of Fame expanded in 2021 to include coaches, with swimming trainer Bernd Berkhahn among the first non-athletes honored for their contributions to sports.
