Schloss Allner, Medieval château in Hennef, Germany.
Schloss Allner is a four-story castle in Hennef with a cross-shaped layout and rectangular towers at the front corners. The building features a central lantern roof from the mid-17th century and sits on the southern slope of Nutscheid Ridge with views toward the Sieg River.
The castle was built around 1400 by Arnold von Merkelsbach as a water fortress and initially served defensive purposes. Over the centuries, the stronghold transformed into a residential estate.
The castle displays architectural styles from different periods that have been added over generations. Visitors can see today how various eras are visible in the stonework and structural details.
The castle sits on a hilltop with good views of the surrounding landscape but remains closed to public access. The private condominiums inside make visits impossible, so the structure can only be viewed from outside.
The castle was a combat site during World War II and sustained damage from American bombardment. The southern tower still bears marks from that period today.
