Rübezahlstiege, Via ferrata in Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, Germany.
Rübezahlstiege is a climbing route with metal handholds embedded in sandstone cliffs in Saxon Switzerland. The path ascends steeply and uses firmly anchored metal fixtures to guide climbers over difficult sections.
Steel fixtures were installed in 1935 and have been in operation for nearly a century. This early equipment is a testament to a long climbing tradition in this mountain region.
The name comes from Rübezahl, a figure from German mountain folklore known as a protective spirit in local stories. Visitors find traces of this local legend deeply rooted in the region's character.
The initial section requires climbing experience since the first four meters must be navigated without fixed anchors. Bring your own equipment, as modern safety systems are not installed here.
The loop trail is about five kilometers long and passes through a narrow cave near the summit where climbers must remove their backpacks. This tight passage is a distinctive feature that makes the route memorable.
