Bloßstock

Bloßstock is a rock formation in Saxon Switzerland that rises steeply above the surrounding landscape. Its north wall drops almost straight down, creating a prominent vertical surface.

The rock formation first appeared on maps in the 16th century and takes its name from a German word meaning a free-standing rock. Climbers began developing routes on it during the 19th century.

The rock draws climbers from across the region who practice their craft on its many routes. Visitors can notice how the stone has been shaped by generations of people using it.

The site is best reached on foot, with various walking paths leading through the area. The best time to visit is during dry weather, as the walls can become slippery otherwise.

The rock has an exceptionally steep north wall that drops almost straight down, a rare feature in this region. This extreme steepness makes it a special draw for experienced climbers.
