Bad Schandau

The town stretches along the Elbe River banks, surrounded by steep sandstone formations and intersected by the Kirnitzsch valley at 146 meters elevation.

First documented in 1445, Bad Schandau received town rights in 1467 due to its strategic location for Elbe River trade, gaining spa status in 1920.

The town features the National Park Museum, Local History Museum, and St John's Church, while traditional timber houses line the riverside neighborhoods.

The Bad Schandau station connects to Dresden and Prague through regular train services, with additional transport options including ferries across the Elbe River.

The electric passenger lift constructed in 1904 provides access to Ostrau village, positioned on a plateau above the main town center.
