Schloss Erpernburg

Schloss Erpernburg is a two-story manor house with a hipped roof and four attached towers that rises above the Alme valley. The grounds contain multiple buildings spanning the 18th to 20th centuries, a Loreto chapel built in 1736, and burial grounds with gravestones from the 16th century.

Ferdinand Baron von und zu Brenken began constructing the castle in 1712, with the main structure completed by 1723. The estate was rebuilt after suffering significant damage from warfare and fire in its early years.

The garden area reflects shifts in taste across generations, with a pavilion that began in one architectural style and transformed into another over time. These changes remain visible to visitors walking through the grounds today.

The estate can be explored comfortably on foot, with paths connecting the various buildings and areas in sequence. There are walkable zones and green spaces where visitors can take in the surroundings at a natural pace.

The castle endured multiple catastrophic events throughout its history and required reconstruction after each one. These rebuilding efforts reveal the determination of the family who maintained and developed the property over centuries.
