Schloss Falkenegg

Schloss Falkenegg is an architectural monument in Neuses, Coburg, featuring a square tower, Romanesque portals, and Gothic arches arranged across multiple levels on a hillside location. The structure combines several building styles and shows how different construction phases were added to the original form.

Count von Mendorff built the initial section during the first half of the 19th century on the hillside. Baron von Ledersteger-Falkenegg later added Renaissance features in 1891, expanding the structure with new architectural elements.

The grounds hold a seven-meter sandstone obelisk honoring poet Moritz August von Thümmel and the tomb of Countess Adrienne Elisabeth von Corneillan. These monuments connect the castle to local history and shape how visitors experience the space.

The property belongs to the city of Coburg and currently houses a kindergarten run by the Evangelical Lutheran parish community. Visitors should be aware that the interior spaces are in active use and may have limited access.

A veranda added in 1905 displays English Decorated Style architecture, creating a surprising stylistic contrast with the rest of the building. Later additions blend these English elements with traditional German timber-frame construction in an intriguing way.
