Schwesternpark, Public park in Witten, Germany.
Schwesternpark is a public garden in Witten featuring winding paths, a stream that flows into a pond, and multiple planted areas arranged in distinct sections. The layout combines different garden styles to represent the natural variety found across Germany.
The park was created between 1906 and 1915 following a design by Adolf Schluckebier, rector of Witten Field School. Its establishment was linked to the adjacent hospital, which commissioned the space for its staff.
The name refers to its original purpose as a recreation space for nurses, and the layout showcases different German landscapes throughout its sections. Visitors can walk through these garden areas and experience regional German diversity in a compact setting.
Entry is free and the park is accessible during daylight hours, with access via a footpath at the end of the Evangelical Hospital parking lot. The maintained paths are easy to walk and the space suits leisurely visits any time of year.
The design allowed nurses from different parts of Germany to encounter landscapes reminiscent of their home regions within the park grounds. This approach was unusual for the period and shows how much thought went into staff recreation.
