Schwartenberg

Schwartenberg is a mountain in the Ore Mountains region near Neuhausen with exposed slopes and rocky ground throughout. The summit offers views across the surrounding landscape, and on clear days you can see far into the distance.

The mountain became more important in 1927 when the Erzgebirgsverein organization built a guesthouse called Schwartenbergbaude. This building served as a rest stop for hikers and mountain travelers, marking a turning point in how people used the peak.

The mountain draws people from nearby villages for outdoor activities throughout the year, especially hiking and winter sports on its slopes. The open terrain makes it a place where locals and visitors can experience the Ore Mountains landscape directly.

Several marked trails lead up from Neuhausen, making navigation straightforward for visitors of different abilities. Bring sturdy shoes and dress according to the weather, as the exposed slopes offer little shelter.

The name comes from the German word Schwarte, which refers to the nature of the terrain. Unlike many other peaks in the region, this mountain has little tree cover and remains unusually open and exposed.
