Schwartenberg, Mountain summit in Neuhausen, Germany.

Schwartenberg is a mountain summit in the Ore Mountains near Neuhausen, in the German state of Saxony. The peak sits on largely open ground with rocky terrain, and its elevated position gives clear sightlines across the surrounding forested hills.

In 1927, the Erzgebirgsverein built a guesthouse called Schwartenbergbaude near the summit, turning the peak into a regular stop for hikers. Before that, the mountain was crossed mainly by locals and travelers passing through the region.

The mountain draws people from nearby villages for outdoor activities throughout the year, especially hiking and winter sports on its slopes. The open terrain makes it a place where locals and visitors can experience the Ore Mountains landscape directly.

Several marked trails lead up from Neuhausen, making the ascent manageable for visitors at different fitness levels. The summit is very exposed to wind and weather, so sturdy shoes and warm layers are recommended regardless of the season.

The name Schwartenberg comes from the old German word Schwarte, which refers to a rough or bare surface, pointing directly to the treeless nature of the top. This lack of tree cover is rare among the peaks of the Ore Mountains, where most summits are wrapped in dense forest.
