The tower was built in 1995 on land that formerly served as a training ground and shooting range for the National People's Army. This site was repurposed after the Cold War to accommodate the new broadcasting facility.
The tower functions as a central broadcasting hub, transmitting multiple FM radio frequencies including rbb Fritz, Power Radio, and rbb radioeins.
The tower is visible from nearby vantage points and can be observed from a distance in the surrounding landscape. Direct access to the facility grounds is not available to the general public.
In March 2020 the facility was upgraded with modern DAB+ digital radio equipment for enhanced broadcasting capabilities. This modernization allowed the station to expand its transmission spectrum beyond conventional FM frequencies.
