Schüberg, Hill summit in Stormarn, Germany
The Schüberg is a hill in the Stormarn region that rises 63 meters, featuring steep slopes covered with mixed beech forest and diverse edge vegetation. Walking paths and forest areas connect different ecological zones throughout the landscape.
The Schüberg first appeared in written records in 1379 when Hamburg's bailiff Tymmo traveled there and received 11 shillings reimbursement from the city's treasury. This early documentation shows the hill's historical importance to the region.
A memorial stone at the summit honors Countess Hedwig von Schmettau, a former estate owner of Hoisbüttel, placed by residents in 1867. The monument reflects how the community preserves connections to its past landowning figures.
The hill is easily accessible via forest paths and connects several ecological areas in the southern Stormarn region. Wear sturdy footwear since the slopes are steep and the ground can become slippery depending on weather conditions.
The Schüberg forms part of a push moraine created during the Weichselian ice age and has been protected as a landscape element since 1987. This geological feature makes it an important record of the region's glacial past.
