Spielzeugmuseum im Havelland, Toy museum in Kleßen-Görne, Germany
The Spielzeugmuseum im Havelland is a toy museum housed in a converted village schoolhouse from 1820, with seven themed rooms displaying German-made toys and playthings. Miniature trains, tin toys, and mechanical objects fill the exhibition spaces and show how toy production developed across more than two centuries.
The schoolhouse was built in 1820 and followed the progressive educational ideas of Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow, whose Reckahn School model influenced its design. The building became a museum in 2005 and now documents the long tradition of toy making that developed in the Brandenburg region.
The region takes its name from the Havel River that flows through Brandenburg. The collection shows how toy making became a valued craft and trade that shaped the identity of local communities for many generations.
The museum is located in a small town northwest of Berlin and operates on selected days of the week for visitors. It helps to check opening times in advance and allow enough time to see all seven rooms at a comfortable pace.
A working Märklin model railway system in gauge 0 operates regularly for visitors and displays miniature landscapes and train stations with realistic detail. This working display is a highlight for many visitors and draws particularly strong interest from model train enthusiasts.
