Spital zum hl. Geist Schwäbisch Gmünd

The Spital zum Heiligen Geist is a timber-framed building constructed in the 15th century that originally functioned as a hospital in Schwäbisch Gmünd's old town. A northern section was added during the 16th century, and the structure now houses a public library containing more than 100,000 books, periodicals, maps, and digital materials for general use.

The institution was founded in 1269 as a hospice operated by the Spital brothers and accumulated substantial property over time. During Schwäbisch Gmünd's period as a free imperial city, this facility became an important refuge for the poor and ill in the region.
