St. Hedwig

St. Hedwig is a church building in the Heepen district of Bielefeld with a rectangular floor plan and hip roof design. The structure features a square bell tower with sound arcades and narrow round-arched windows along its sides.

The foundation stone was laid in June 1955 and came from the destroyed St. Hedwig Cathedral in Berlin. Archbishop Lorenz Jaeger consecrated the building in 1956.

The stained glass windows throughout the church depict Saint Hedwig and biblical scenes, creating distinctive light patterns inside the building. These windows shape how visitors experience the interior as they move through the space.

The church is accessible from Hillegosser Street and serves the local community with regular worship services. Visitors can generally enter during open hours, though checking ahead for mass times is helpful.

A crypt beneath the altar was added in 1996 and provides a quiet space for personal prayer below the main worship area. This underground chamber offers a more secluded setting for reflection.
