Töpker Teich

The Töpker Teich is a protected nature reserve built on the grounds of former clay pits in Bielefeld. It consists of shallow waters, reed beds, wooded areas, and orchards that together create habitat for many species.

The site became a protected nature reserve in the 1990s after clay extraction ended. Since then, additional conservation work has supported the development of these habitats.

The name comes from the clay extraction that once shaped this land. Today visitors walk the paths to watch water birds and reed beds up close.

The site is accessible through marked paths that lead through different habitats. It is important to stay on the paths and avoid disturbing sensitive areas to protect wildlife.

The area serves as a stepping stone biotope for species that depend on standing water. This function makes it a crucial link in the landscape for aquatic organisms and migratory birds.
