St. Franziskus, Parish church in Mainz-Lerchenberg, Germany
St. Franziskus is a parish church in the Lerchenberg district built between 1982 and 1984 according to a modern design. Large windows featuring biblical stained glass artwork by Georg Meistermann characterize the interior, while an organ with 23 registers provides the acoustic furnishing of the space.
The church was built between 1982 and 1984 and was the last newly constructed church building in Mainz city deaneries. Architects Hans Schilling and Peter Kulka shaped the religious infrastructure of the expanding district with their work.
The interior displays works by artist Leonhard Eder, whose symbols and representations shape the space. These artworks give the worship room a distinctive visual character that extends beyond its religious function.
Regular worship services are held here and the church serves as a place for religious gatherings and quiet moments. Visitors should observe respectful behavior as customary in houses of worship and be mindful of ongoing activities.
During the organ renovation in 2016, eight registers from the original 1984 instrument were preserved and integrated into the new installation. This blend connects the church's musical history with contemporary quality.
