Trümmerfrau memorial, Memorial statue in Volkspark Hasenheide, Germany

The limestone statue displays a woman sitting on brick rubble holding a hammer, representing post-war reconstruction efforts in Berlin.

German sculptor Katharina Szelinski-Singer created this memorial between 1954 and 1955 as her first public commission after completing art school.

The monument honors the women who cleared debris and salvaged building materials from Berlin streets following World War II.

Located at the base of Rixdorfer Hill near Graefestraße, the statue underwent restoration in 1986 due to repeated vandalism.

The inauguration ceremony in 1955 gathered 88 former rubble women alongside Berlin Mayor Otto Suhr to commemorate their reconstruction work.
